Argentina produced a record 973,700 barrels of oil a day in September, 15.5% more than a year earlier, the Energy Secretariat reported, bringing the country within reach of the 1 million mark.
Argentina alcanzó un récord histórico en petróleo con 973,7 mil barriles diarios (+15,5% interanual), impulsado por la actividad en Vaca Muerta.
Translation: "Argentina reached a historic oil record with 973.7 thousand barrels a day (+15.5% year on year), driven by activity in Vaca Muerta."
The Vaca Muerta shale formation in Neuquén province supplied a record 698,500 barrels a day, 71.7% of the national total, according to the secretariat’s data. National output is also above the previous record, set in 1998.
The oil is increasingly sold abroad. Energy exports reached US$1,781 million in September, up sharply from a year earlier, according to trade data reported by Bloomberg Línea. Argentina’s energy trade surplus, exports minus imports, reached US$9,427 million from January through September, above the US$7,815 million record set in all of 2025, Energía Online reported.
A consultancy, Montamat & Asociados, projects that the 1 million mark will be passed in the last quarter of 2026. The secretariat’s figures for October will show whether production crosses it.
