President Milei is due to fly to Washington tonight for a three-day trip that pairs a speech at the US Chamber of Commerce with a gala where Eduardo Bolsonaro is also invited to speak, 12 days before Brazil’s presidential runoff.

Milei is due to leave the Aeroparque military air base at 11 p.m. with Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and is due to land in Washington on Wednesday morning, according to the official schedule. His first meetings that afternoon are with Andy Kleinman, an Argentine-born investor who heads the video game developer Delphi Interactive, and Harold Hamm, founder of Continental Resources. The US oil company has been buying into Vaca Muerta, Argentina’s main shale formation, including stakes in blocks run by Pan American Energy.

On Wednesday night Milei is due to attend the Official Hispanic Heritage Gala at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, organized by the group Latino Wall Street and the media outlet La Derecha Diario. He is to receive a “leadership and global impact” recognition and give a speech. Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is also invited, posted on X on Sunday that he would be in Washington on Oct. 14 “with my friend” Milei.

Eduardo Bolsonaro is the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and the brother of Flávio Bolsonaro, who faces President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the Oct. 25 runoff. He has lived in the United States since February 2025. Brazil’s Supreme Court sentenced him in June to four years and two months in prison for lobbying Washington to sanction Brazilian officials, and a justice last week ordered his arrest if he returns to Brazil. Presidential spokesman Adrián Ravier said the government will not comment on another country’s courts but that Milei’s support for Bolsonaro “is explicit.”

The pairing lands in a tense bilateral relationship. Brazil recalled its ambassador to Buenos Aires on July 26, a day after Milei spoke beside Flávio Bolsonaro at the Liberal Party convention in São Paulo and called Lula a “convict,” Reuters reported. Brazil is also Argentina’s main trading partner, and the runoff’s outcome could reshape trade between the two countries.

On Thursday morning, Milei is due to speak at the US Chamber of Commerce on “The Argentine case: the challenge of economic growth after decades of populism” and receive its “Global Champion of Free Enterprise” award. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who is scheduled to give opening remarks, is the highest-ranking member of the Trump administration on the programme. At 5 p.m. he is due at an event at Argentina’s embassy marking its presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), with the alliance’s chair, Marcelo Mindlin, and Yehuda Kaploun, the US special envoy for combating antisemitism.

The schedule includes no meeting with President Trump. The government is negotiating a possible visit to Argentina by Vice President JD Vance in November. This is Milei’s 19th trip to the United States since taking office and his fifth this year, and it comes three weeks before the US midterm elections on Nov. 3. He is scheduled to leave Washington at 9 p.m. on Thursday and land in Buenos Aires at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.
